I’m going to write a travel guide unlike anything on the shelves right now. This is the guide to Europe for those who really want to see it, no matter what, glamour be damned. This is a guide for those who want to travel more frugally than a college student, but better than a hobo.
This is “Europe on €5 a Day.”
€ 1 = ~ $1.25
But we need your help! In order to carry out the meticulous research a guide like this requires, my friend Justin and I need to travel to Europe to refine our strategies, learn new ones, and devise a compelling and comprehensive travel guide for the ultra-frugal.
There are two types of budget travel guides out there right now. A bunch of them are traditional-style guides with a focus on providing specific examples of how to save a buck in particular locales. The other type of book is a general guide, heavy on the philosophy of travel, usually with the long-term vagabond in mind.
Our guide is a marriage of the two (except in Georgia and Texas). It will contain specific no-to-low cost locales that will enable you to plan ahead, as well as the trial-and-error philosophies usually learned on the go which will prepare you to take advantage of opportunities on the fly. And, while it’s geared towards the budget backpacker, anyone can benefit from “Europe on €5 a Day” to save a buck!
This is not about “right” or “wrong” travel. We don’t have a problem with vegging on a beach, taking a bus tour, or enjoying special “pod” bunks at a hostel. But those guides have already been written. This isn’t just about being “affordable.” This is something far more useful than a travel memoir, and farmore readable than a travel guide that suggests simple “sights not to be missed.”
